Rose`s artistic career has spanned 35 years. Her early
interest in sculpture and theatre led her to complete a Foundation at St
Alban’s College of Art and Design. In
1983 she graduated in Theatre design at Central St Martin’s under the guidance
of John Gunter, and worked extensively on the London Fringe and New York’s Off
Broadway. She designed for opera, ballet, theatre, television and film,
including productions for the National Theatre, English National Opera, Welsh National
Opera and London City Ballet. Her costume designs were awarded a nomination for
a Rose D`or at the Montreaux film festival.
Rose’s love of performance led her to train in ballet and contemporary dance. She has sung jazz, classical music and musical theatre, performing at La Mama Theatre New York, and the National Theatre London. Staying true to her unconventional spirit in 1984 she appeared with performance artist Leigh Bowery and ballet dancer Michael Clarke at the Limelight club in New York as part of the avant-garde London fashion scene. Rose then played the role of Volta in the original production of Andrew Lloyd Webber`s musical Starlight Express, choreographed by Arlene Phillips and directed by Trevor Nun.
Rose moved from costume to couture with the trend for historically inspired fashion in the mid 1980s. Through selling limited edition garments to Harrods and Fortnum and Mason`s she eventually focused on bespoke clothing. She collaborated with designers such as Joseph Etugui and Emma Hope and made elegant off beat gowns that graced film premieres, runways and society weddings for over a decade. Her work has appeared in Vogue, Tatler, Harpers & Queen and the UK and international press.
Returning to her original love of sculpture, Rose studied figurative sculpture at Heatherley`s School of Fine Art in 2000. On completing her training Rose`s bronzes were chosen for exhibition at the Mall Galleries and Europe’s leading animalier gallery, Sladmore London. Exhibiting since 2001, her limited edition sculptures have sold worldwide. She was elected a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors in 2012.
The deeper process of making these sculptures fired a new interest in art psychotherapy, and after training at Goldsmith`s College in 2005 Rose spent the next ten years teaching and studying psychology and ancient dreaming techniques. Returning to art, Rose sought to unite the different aspects of her creativity in a new way, and graduated with a Master`s degree in Fine Art from the Arts University Bournemouth in 2015.
